Hi all

My boy arrives in the next week or so from the breeder and will be going to live out with a bunch of other youngsters.

The herd of youngsters will be coming from all over the place so, whilst the plan long term is to wormcount, we will be worming everything once it had arrived (mine is the last to arrive and they will be barn kept for the first week or so) in order to ensure that we are starting from a blank canvas, before they get turned out. I have spoken to Westgate laboratories and they have advised to give a 5 day guard and Equitape and then to commence wormcounting from eight weeks after that.

My colt also needs to start his vaccinations.

Please can you all advise on what you think is the best course of action in order not to overload his little system with chemicals at a time when he will already be stressed from weaning and moving? I was thinking of starting worming the day after he arrives with the 5 day guard and then on the sixth day give the equitape and then giving him a week's 'let down' before starting vaccinations? How does this sound? All the youngsters have been wormed regularly in their respective studs.

I am not really interested in the merits of vaccinating or not vaccinating or worming or not worming as I am well clued up and AM going to be following this plan, I just wondered about timescales from those of you who have had youngsters before.

Thanks in advance :)
