my 64 year old friend has to sell her lovely Welsh D due to her health problems.

He is 9 yrs old and was gelded late (at about 6) then broken to drive before being broken to ride at 7. Did lots of in hand showing with previous owner and also hacking, hound rides, xc schooling etc.

My friend has had him since May and he has been professionally schooled twice a week in both flatwork and jumping. She mainly hacks him out and has done some long distance rides (with lots of good ditch jumping!). He did one unaffiliated show this summer winning the Ridden M&M class, coming 2nd in the M&M workers, Champion M&M and Reserve Supreme Champion of Show.

The real bu**er is that he is not papered as that would make a big difference but sadly, to date, we have not been able to find out enough about his breeding and history before he turned 5 to ascertain whether or not we can get duplicate papers for him.

So, the question is - what should she be asking for him?

(will try to post photo later when I've worked out how to do this but new to forum so ...

I was going to say at least 3k until I got to the non papered bit as his mileage is mainly showing as opposed to going out dressaging/showjumping etc. - Has he been out and done either of theses as well as the showing? Even if he had been once and jumped fillers away from home I would be happier then paying a bit more if that makes sense (though that is probably due to having a welsh who jumps anything at home but can be quirky out

) he sounds a lovely chap though

I think I would advertise as a nice allrounder for 2.5k but be prepared to drop due to market and coming in to winter.

Okay - so here's a couple of photos

Thanks guys for replies so far. Hmm... methinks could have a problem as my friend wants to clear 3.5K !!

If he is sound, viceless and relatively easy to handle and hack (i.e. suitable for an average lower level RC type person), will jump small fences then I could see him selling for £3500-4000. Nice looking cob types are always sought after.

I think he is Beeeeeautiful!!

My boy is v v like him & I paid £3000 for him as a 4 yo who had done nothing. Mind you that was 3 years ago. Still I would have thought £3000 at least. Could he not be DNA tested re papers/parentage?

Please send him over to me asap.

Definitely sound, viceless and easy to handle - she does everything (including loading into trailer) entirely on her own. He is snaffle mouth (although was shown in happy mouth pelham) good to hack but would probably say he is not a novice ride as can occasionally be quite keen - although think that's mainly down to his lack of experience rather than any nastiness on his part. Jumps fences nicely and is a great ditch jumper so all in all a really nice little horse.

I do wonder what he'd look like clipped out as show cob but she's not about to do that as she likes him hairy! She's gutted to be selling but doctor's orders so what can you say ...

Had thought of that and really should contact WPCS ... but think you need to have some idea of breeding first before they can test the DNA for parentage - pretty sure they don't have full DNA database of all registered animals so think we're still back at square 1

he's very smart, advertise and see what she gets

as I said for me as unpapered his future doesn't lie in showing but as an allrounder/RC horse (like my boy and me!) but for that money and age I would want something to have some SJ/DR mileage. But that might just be me, you might get someone who falls in love with him but that is a lot of money at this time of year going on what friends have managed to sell there nice easy allrounders for in comparison to what I paid say 3 years ago.

how big is he?
