My 13m coblet has had the first two of his initial course of vaccinations for tet and flu last month. He was also gelded and a potential post-op complication necessitated a course of Norodine which he finished 12 days ago. He lives out with my TB but I bring him in daily for a groom/feet pick up session and he gets a very small feed as a thank you before returning to the field to grow.

The day before yesterday I noticed him cough a couple of times. Yesterday I noticed that his nose was a bit snotty. Today he was still a bit snotty, just could see a pale yellow mucus up his nostrils. He cantered over to the gate when I saw him and was fine in himself, right up until I was turning him back out and he had a big coughing fit - he had to stop walking, dropped his head to about 6" of the floor and coughed constantly for about 10-15 seconds. Then when he was back in the field he sneezed and had a big elastic snot hanging out of his nose!! (bleurgh!) All the other horses that he can reach over the fence are fine and healthy. We do have a couple of horses that only arrived about 3 weeks ago but they are both healthy and Albi can't reach them anyway.

I'm phoning the vet in the morning, but in the meantime I'm worried sick so I just wondered if any of you have had a horse with these symptoms and what they turned out to be?

Thanks

call your vet but dont worry too much. All of mine have had the same. Its called...baby bugs. They are just like human babies in that they catch everything and get over it quickly, if allowed to do so. Maybe Im from the 'old' school and dont have a clue so dont take my word for gospel (sp?)
