advice please

My boy has cast one of his shoes and the farrier can't come out until wednesday! Is there anything i need to do in the mean time? He's not lame, but his hooves are a bit split - though i have plenty of mousturiser on!
Do i stop riding?

Also, when doing a dressage test, do you change the whip over when you hange the rein?

Depends on your hprse. I have one horse who gets footsore if I ride without a shoe and another who isn't too bad. I prefer not to ride but that's is just me being cautious.
 
I would personally wait. If he has one shoe off it might affect his balance aswell as causing problems if his hoof gets damaged
 
I don't ride if my horse has 3 shoes. But she is a rather delicate TB. Depends on your horse. If his hoof is splitting I wouldn't risk it..
 
glad you all said that! you've comfirmed my thoughts!!! he is only shod on front feet, so has only 1shoe at the minute, so i think i'll hold off!

I have done a patch up job ibn the past with gamgee wrapped round foot followed by loads of duck tape. Stops the hoof splitting any more.
 
and no, you don't have to swap your whip over
