My mum bought Tonto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84AoZjMU7ME) for me 3 years ago. He was poorly behaved and badly schooled. Over the 3 years we improved an incredible amount. We came from being eliminated in our first 1’3 to winning our first 3’3. He was right on the brink on being able to be BSJA reg. when I started having family issues at home. I left home and moved in with my dad who is totally unhorsy. Tonto is now for sale at £2200. I’d give absolutely anything to buy him back. He means everything to me and I don’t really think I realised it until now. I’ve talked to my dad about buying him but he’s very against it. He has the money, but isn’t keen on the commitment and cost of upkeep. I really don’t know how to persuade him... It would mean so much to me to get him back. He also doesn’t think he’s worth the £2200 they are asking...I think he is. I’m just really not sure where to start. Any ideas are greatly appreciated... Feel free to ask any questions too.

Im really sorry to hear your news but am sorry to say that I dont think you have any choice in whats going to happen. You arent in a position to buy or fund the horse and your one parent wants him sold and the other wont buy. To be honest I think you are just going to have to accept that at the moment you wont have your own horse.

Oh, he looks like a super pony!

Have I understood this right: your mum is selling the pony and your dad is not very happy to buy him or keep him? Would they compromise if your mum let you have him for free and your dad covered the costs to keep him? Or has the pony already been sold to someone else who is selling him on again?

Yeh my dad isn't willing but I need to convince him. Dad already offered to pay all costs but mum said £2500 take it or leave it. And someone is selling him for my mum but mum owns him.

I was in almost the exact same position not long ago - It truly is heartbreaking.

I cried for days, and in fact still do.

But sad to say the easiest thing to do is let go, and remember the good times with Tonto.

I am so so sorry you are going through this and really hope you come out of it all okay xx xx

Sorry to read about your situation but sadly I have to agree with the others. I can only suggest speaking to the current owners and asking them to pass on your contact details to the person they sell him to so that you don't lose him completely.

If you really want to keep your pony and are prepared to do whatever it takes how about getting a weekend or evening job to pay towards him, this should show your dad that you are committed, but you will have to factor in the time to look after pony and keep up with your school work, depends on how much you want to keep him.

I really want to get a job and have looked like everywhere...I'm going to go round again today though. Thanks.
