Advice please

I have a 16.3hh TB gelding which can not be ridden due to the fact he bolts. I have kept him as a field ornament for the past 14yrs. He wants for nothing apart for some attention, i have 3 others that i ride so i don't have much time for him and i have just started working full time so my time is even more limited. I have tried loaning him but due to his size and money the way it is I'm not having much luck.

My question is due to his bolting i have to be very careful how does take him on. Would i be such a bad person to even consider having him put to sleep. I hate the thought of doing this but i just don't know what to do. I would loan him out long term if i could find the right home for him as he is the most lovely horse to be around on the ground and just wants some love. I feel so awful for even thinking like this.

Does anybody know of anyone looking for a companion horse. please help my head is all over the place as i only want the best for him.

I think you are being very sensible keeping the horse and not riding him. A true bolter is a very dangerous horse but some people would have been tempted to sell him on to off-load the problem on someone else.

If you can't find him a loan home and are not able to keep him any longer then PTS might be the only option.
 
It's not so much i can't afford to keep him, it's just he is getting no attention and i don't think that is fare either. I just don't know what to think anymore. I feel awful for even thinking of putting him to sleep.

Oh he is a true bolter albeit only went with me 3 times before i called it a day.
I do love him to bits and only want the best for him. If i could find someone just to come and groom him and spend some time with him i would probably feel a bit happier.
 
my mare started bolting-along with every other problem- vet/professionals decided she's best not ridden, luckily i have the means to keep her as field retired but if my situation ever changes i would see pts as only viable option for her, BUT that doesnt mean i too wouldn't feel awful about it, less awful however than if i passed her to another home and she bolted and killed someone.

Maybe being silly here, but if i put him on there would people not try to sort out the bolting as it says project horse (sorry never seen that site before)
 
can u not try to loan him out as a field orniment to someone with a bit more time than u???

im sure you ll make the right decision what ever u decide as only you know the horse best
 
If he is sharing the field with other horses, perhaps he is happy enough without human attention. What makes you think he is unhappy?

Of course if he is and you can't find a companion home, then I think PTS is the sensible option.

Never thought of it like that, i just thought i was being a bad owner by not paying him attention.

If he was a nasty horse on the ground it would make the dissection a whole lot easier, but he is just a great big softy.
