my 12 month old boy thinks hes a human iv had him since he was 4 months when he came in a very neglected state but hes now too overfriendly he will swing his bum at you til he gets a bum scratch hes always in my face for kisses hes quite a loaner in the field but the other 3 are a lot older than him and want a quite life hes a right sweetie but sometimes too over the top and dosent respect my space at all hes virtually bomb proof with everything even black bags, tarpauling etc does anyone think getting another foal/yearling might help him overcome his love of humans as i dont want it to get in the way of his education as he gets older plus hes already stronger than me

Start teaching a few manners, without being harsh, getting another youngster is doubling your problem. Tie him up with a haynet and if he swings his bum at you for a scratch just push his bum away and say move over until you have him where you want and give him a groom and that way he associates with what he wanted pleasure of having a groom and start picking out his feet same time and to be honest most youngster horse or human can be over the top as most of us would say tell us about it! Sound like a perfectly lovely youngster, just handle him right and you will have a well grounded horse

you need to be firmer with him and make sure he stays out of your body space! maybe turning him away with some other youngsters will help him be a youngster. it might shock him abit that he is being told off for swinging his bum into you for a scratch but its just the way it has to be, i dont let any horse push or pull me wether it be my own or not.

my other horses dont boss him for some reason they seem to ignore him think its caus hes so quiet so hes seeking all the attention from a human he gets treated firmly and i dont pussy foot around him as hes a angel in everything he does ie i take him thro woods walking when i take my daughter out on leadrein

its not just his bum scratching he gets way too clingy if he could get in my pocket he would and actually pushes me over while doing it i know its nice for a yearling to be good and its prob got a lot to do with he completely trusts humans which is a good thing im just not sure it will help him in the long term being this way with everyone when im walking him he tries to put his head under my arm constantly

sorry but you made him into this human snuggly horse! now you have to wean him and instill manners and respect! and if you keep scratching his bum he will expect this! time for tough love, ignore him. just catch bring in to feed and feet, brush (dont scratch the spots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and turn out again! when dr green appears again turn him out with the big boys and let the natural pecking order establish itself. an indulged yearling/2 year old can be likened to a deliquent teenager!
