All advice welcome, my horse has been on box rest since the end of March, last week the vet advised I could start walking him in hand, 15 mins to start with and building up. I have been doing this with the aid of Sedalin and he has been fine (suprisingly).
Now I can start turning him out in a small paddock, sedated to start with, for a few hours a day and again building him up over next few weeks until he can go out properly. He can't run around as still not fully sound and he is still recovering, not fully recovered. For the 1st week I was ok as I had use of a turnout pen but now I only have electric tape and posts and no battery & energiser. He went out last night for 2 hours on 5ml of Sedalin and was as good as gold but i'm just not sure how to go forward from this arrangement.
He needs building up slowly as he hasn't had grass inside him for over 4 months but I am scared to death he is going to think "the grass is greener on the other side" and try and escape and cause more damage but I just can't keep in his stable any longer, for mine and his safety as much as anything else.
I can keep moving his "pen" so he always has grass but I can't keep him in this for the rest of his life and full recovery could be up to 12 months in total so another 6/7 months.
Sorry this is so long but any advice on how to get him out again without doing more damage would be really great...
