I'm not really sure if this is in the correct place but would appreciate some advice.
My horse currently has a foot abcsess, both the vet and farrier have looked at it today. The vet has put her on antibiotics and bute. My mare has struggled with weight gain since I purchased her 9months ago and not with myself so far but is prone to mud fever, rain scald and gets the runs with spring grass. I have at times thought perhaps she has ulcers and she is barefoot so feed her low starch/sugar and adlib.
With all this in mind I am worrying about the effects of the antibiotics on her gut and also wondering is she lacking in something? With me she hasn't had rain scald or mud fever but she does have some dry scurfy patches under her neck and also this abscess.
She currently has top spec senior balancer, micronised linseed, unmollased beet and she was also on grass nuts but have recently gradually cut this out of her diet now the grass is coming through. She was on adlib haylage but have recently switched to hay as they are out more so we were not getting through the haylage.
I was thinking of yee sac or brewers yeast to help gut function?
