Looking for a companion pony for my heavy set mare. I have found one who is 11 and about 12hh. He looks lovely and well handled. Hes obviously well loved too and owner has been very honest. Hes got a sarcoid which has never caused him problems and are quite common? Owner has had him 6 years and last year he had a mild case of lami due to neighbours feeding him loads of crappy food. Hes had no bouts since and had none before that??? I think hes worth taking a chance on? Xxxx

If he has had lami, you would have to consider he may need different management to your mare. If I was looking for a companion, first place I would go would be to a riding school especially to give a hard working pony a nice retirement or a charity :)

He is through a charity, the lady cant keep him anymore, so he would just be given to me as charity didn't have enough space for him. We don't have much grazing so not tonnes of rich grass for him to eat etc. He looks like he needs to lose weight. Apparently vet said it was lami but it went within 2 days? X

Is your mare managed like a lami case? Once they've had it always prone - if your mare has similar nutritional needs why not - I'm assuming you're not paying a lot/ any for her? Oh just spotted hes a him - tbh mixing mares and geldings would worry more than an old sarcoid.

go for it, bless him, if the grass did grow too much for him you could always electrify a circle in the middle of the field so he was still with her but in his own space
