Currently looking after a previously unhandled yearling, she has been in our stable around 3 weeks now, how do i know when i can let her out with the rest of the horses??? We can lead her around fine, although still a litttle spooky, pick all 4 feet up, brush her and she calls to us when we get in sight ( not many horses around though)She has been having turnout in a small paddock and we can catch her fine, problem i see is they live as a herd in a huge area 60+ acres , don't fancy spending next 2 years trying to catch her lol advice welcome :)

Depends on the other horses. If she were mine she'd have been out with some of the others within a few days but then I have so many horses and I know which herds would accept her and which wouldn't. How many other horses are there and what are their personalities with new horses? Presumably she's been able to sniff them over the fence? So they know her a little bit?

Yes the paddock she has been using adjoins others field and do put my others in there with her so she is not alone, they graze in mini herds and is another youngster out there who has very few friends but they don't tend to bother him too much? am i worrying too much?

35 horses is a lot of horses for a little one to contend with, even if they are running on 60 acres. I like to run small herds, and I am running 10 herds at the moment but no herd/field has more than 6 horses in it. Hmm, I don't know what to advise for the best then as this is not how I run my farm and I don't have experience of running a larger herd like that all together. She might be okay but then she might not be so I don't want to say what you should do, sorry. Is there any way you can make a smaller field within the field to begin with? Say maybe giving her and a few friends 10 acres to run in and so the others can speak to her over the fence. If she had 6 or 7 friends then I wouldn't worry about her but I wouldn't want to put her in there with 35 horses if she only has one or two friends.

Yes thats one of my worries, only 2 have been properly introduced as whilst the field runs along side, they have 60 acres to roam in, do have people telling me she should be out now and thats it let go, but she is still only a baby that has only run with other babies? eek
