I entered the BRC dressage to music at Addington. After the entries closed BRC moved the champs to Bury Farm which for various reasons means I can no longer go.

Citizens advice state that if you buy a ticket for an event and the organiser moves, reschedules or cancels the event you are entitled to a refund. BRC say no refund on entry fee as I did not buy a ticket to an event but entered a competition and that competition is still going ahead.

Really disappointed with BRC - anyone know where I stand.

I get that it's unusual times, they did well to move it and not cancel and it's great for most people but it is not fair to move an event and not offer a refund

For me it would depend how much it is, I haven't got any idea. It does seem unfair that you don't get a refund if you have requested one, however my view in these difficult times is that so many organisers of things we enjoy are struggling, and have had to cancel so much this year, that if it isn't a huge amount I would probably leave it and see it as support to keep the dressage going until the next time I wanted to enter.

Are they still receiving entries, I would probably ring them and say if my place is filled then I would like the refund but if not then I'd be happy to leave it.

They moved the event after entries had closed, which makes me even more mad. We are a long way from Addington but seemingly locals knew that there was an issue and whilst BRC were collecting entry fees there was no realistic chance of the even taking place at that venue. But they still took our money. It's £48

Again don’t know the legalities buy my view would be Given that there is less than 20 miles between Addington and Bury Farm the organisers maybe thinking your reasons for withdrawing are not to do with location or travel distance and are using the change in venue as an excuse to try and get a refund for you withdrawing for your own reasons after the closing date.
If you can identify something that fundamentally Bury farm can’t fulfil that Addington could/would then that is your argument for refund otherwise I don’t think the organisers are wrong here, if it had been moved the other side of the country then yes you have a case but they haven’t.

I don't have a lorry so booked a hotel slightly to the north west of Addington which at only 6 miles from the venue meant I could easily pop back and forth to see to my horse. That hotel is now 40 minutes away from Bury farm so not practical. I can't get a refund on the hotel but I knew that at the time I booked. I am going to the event on my own and had persuaded a friend to come and help me. They live to the west of addington and are not able to come to Bury as they say it's too far.

So I am now hotel-less and groom less. If I had known it was a Bury Farm I would not have entered.

I appreciate it’s frustrating for you but it might just be a grin (grimace) and bear it situation.

Addington and Bury are two very comparable venues in terms of location, facilities, surfaces, stabling.

BRC members are a friendly bunch, I’m sure someone will be able to give you a hand for your test. 40 mins is a pain but doable for somewhere to sleep for the night or you could try and get B&B closer to Bury?

Can you no longer go due to the distance or because of another event? I think that would make a difference to whether they have to refund you or not.

You could maybe ask if you could have a voucher refund so like that amount towards another entry with them at another time. A sort of meet halfway solution
