Advice - Re Ridden ID Class

I am taking my friends horse to an ID show at the weekend and while i have done a couple of seasons at local level of Ridden Hunter classes i have not done a lot of classes where the judge rides.

There will be a ride judge and a conformation judge so i have a couple of questions :-

1 I presume that i will ride in the go round then we will all be lined up and the judge will do an individual show on each horse whilst this is going on i will need to remove the saddle and trot him up for the conformation judge is this correct?

2 Can i carry a whip for the trot up (he is a little lazy in hand) and if so what type of whip (a schooling one would be perfect)?

Hooray! Someone who can spell "conformation", you are bound to get placed!! ;)

Seriously, I haven't done ID showing but the general format is that you will be called into line after the first go round and then the judge will ride in that order - not necessarily final placings BTW. So don't leap to strip off your saddle if you are at the front. The judge will ride rather than do a show - usually on both reins and might include extended canter. Meanwhile the steward will be directing the line for the conformation judge.

Stand your horse so legs can be seen sideways on, then walk up, turn horse away from you and trot back past the judge - not over her!! You shouldn't be showing with a schooling whip so use your short whip or cane. Better if you can practise a good trot after your turn. Hope this helps!! :):)
 
ID showing is run just like any other hunter class :)

In regards to carrying for the trot up, Im not too sure - however you can get your groom to help you!

Best of Luck - they were my favourite show class - the show pic in my sig is an ID show class :)
