have to get field sprayed for buttercup as more of this than grass, before they can move out of winter paddock.our grass is really slow at the moment not sure if its the recent cold weather or rabbits. how long do they need to be off after spraying, and what do you know about 2 4 d. any advice welcome please.horses itching to get out on grass.

When I was on livery farmer would spray field leave three weeks then put cows on for a couple of weeks then we were allowed back on after he chain harrowed and rolled it.

Don't know if that helps. I suppose it depends what it's sprayed with?

Get the ph tested, buttercups are often a sign of low ph which could also explain the grass being slow, will ask OH who's an agricultural contractor about sprays when he gets in.

Ours is being sprayed in a couple of weeks and all animals must be off it for 7 days. That will spray for docks, nettles, clover, ragwort buttercups and clover. Ours was in a really bad state when we bought it a year ago and I had 20:10:10 fertiliser spread last year as a kick start to get some grass. After having been through 12 months we now know what grass and weeds we get so have muck spread this spring and are waiting for the weeds to grow so they can be killed.
