Rosie will be allowed to use a stopwatch for the first time when she goes to Gatcombe for BC Novice champs. Can anyone recommend a not too expensive, easy to use one and any tips for learning to use it. They'd sent off entries for Knaptoft inter but apparently they didn't arrive so she'll have had no practice run. Oh, and also links to on-line suppliers.
TIA

I am afraid it is not worth getting a cheap version as you need to upgrade in the end. The yellow ones available from the tack shops / on line are the best and designed for job.

As for there use they give you an indication of whether you are upto time or not but are only really effective when you meaasure minute markers. I.e. if speed is 550m/min use a wheel and measure 550 m from the start that is where you should be if you are up to time at one minute. Carry on measuring in 550 intervals for the length of the course. the watch will beep every minute. Hope that makes sense.

I also have the big yellow one!!
Apart from what everyone else has said.. another tip, start the watch 10 seconds early (ie when the starter starts counting you down from 10) otherwise if you're faffing around trying to start it when they say 'go' you'll waist time, and more than likely get in a muddle!!

Thanks all - I'll pass all the info on as I'm not sure she looks at the forum

Just don't do like a girl did on Sunday. Her Gran stood 2 fences from the end and shouted "20 seconds to go" as she went past. Right in front of a fence judge who radioed it to the Chief Steward...

Gee thanks for getting me TE'd Gran...

Ye its the yellow one! and ye think thats about what i payed for mine!!

And agree with the start it 10 seconds earlier and i think when i used it on countdown i set it a min less so i knew when the beeps started i had 1 min to get home!
