Well about the day really! I've visited a bit with horse, but more with local neighbouring packs - on Saturday have been invited out to big day with pack 3hrs drive away and just was looking for advice on the day/management of horsey!

Will have to leave about 7ish, have friend hiring up there so she's travelling with me which is great. But normally on hunting morning feed horse at 7.30, leave in stable then tack up etc and leave about 9.45 to hunt. I was just wondering what anyone does re change of routine?

Also at the end of the day, I am parking at hunting familys place, so might have opportunity to wash off, bandage etc before travelling home. But when would you feed both morning and evening? In the pm, wait until home, or small feed before travelling, or just haylage net?

Boy had tough week last week so has had it quiet this week and didn't go out yesterday just been hacked today, tom and Fri all being well. Any advice welcome!! Thankyou!

Most definitely feed him and let him travel with a net of haylage. As you know if they have a long day their hind gut gets very empty so they need to fill up on hay again . We never feed any horse after hunting until they are dry and have eaten a good lot of hay so normally 11pm is feed time on hunting days.

If you cannot wash him down, etc bandage loosely and rug up, give a drink and plenty of hay on the home journey - have a great day.

I would feed before you go, as long as you give him a bit of a chance to digest before you load up. If you're parking with other folk who are hunting then I would tack up when you get there.

If you ahve chance to wash off then that's brilliant, gives you chance to treat any little scratches etc before you travel too. I would just give him water and electrolyte before you head off and a big haylage net in the wagon. Feed when you get home, even though it's out of his routine they are mostly better off with fibre after hunting as it gets their guts working properly again after a day running about with no food going in.

hope you have a brilliant day!
