Advice regarding behaviour of New Forest

There a a fair few of us with New Forest Ponies I am sure someone can help

What is the problem? If it is breed specific I have a New Forest who has been with me for 10 years so perhaps I can help. My pony is a rather clever sensitive opinionated & prone to escaping & caused me quite a lot of worry as well as pleasure.
