Advice regarding rehoming.

Well ive had to resort to asking advice on a forum, as i dont know what else to do.
I took in 2 standard daschounds when their owner suddenly died, she wanted me to have her dogs as her sons werent intersted, she asked 1 of her sons to compensate me for having her dogs, well the sons just dont want to know. so im left to pay for 2 more dogs 1 needs constant medication for disc problems. Ive had the dogs for 7 months now and im struggling i already have 4 gsds and lots of other animals. Ive contacted daschound rescue who told me a home would be found in a matter of weeks, months later they now say nobody wants to take on the older bitch with disc problems, i dont want then going in a dogs home, they are full up enough, and they are my responsability, ive asked good friends if they could ask around, again no one wants the older dog. If i thought the older dog was miserable/suffering i would have her pts, but she isnt, the younger bitch could find a home no problem. Has anyone else got any ideas of other avenues to go down or other rehoming sites.

Is the a dashhound rescue?? or have you tried preloved or facebook, there maybe someone out there who wants them.

that's a tough one, what crappy sons. I guess the choices are to rehome the younger one probably through the breed rescue. With the older one, you might have to make a tough decision-unless the vet can help (ie knows of anyone who might take her on).

We have a rescue charity here in Scotland that acts as a sort of broker between owners rehoming (so no kennels involved usually) and they cover the costs of any ongoing medication. Maybe there's something similar down there?
 
If you rehomed the younger one could you then keep the older? It is a difficult situation and I do see you would prefer they both went.
 
just looked on preloved in the wanted ads and someone is looking for a dachshound for their mother who has had them before.. ad says location is Colchester,essex so maybe too far . there was also someone in Yorkshire who wants a companion for their 7 month old dachshound
 
Personally I would avoid gumtree or preloved like the plague. If you look at the ads on there the vast majority are awful :(. I would keep trying with the rescues. Maybe try a local smaller rescue. I'm sorry you have been messed about by the son, that's totally not your fault. I would however worry where two pedigree dogs, one with health issues would end up as I think they would be keen fodder for idiots wanting a cheap pedigree daxy. Xx

I have to agree with you here TWH, I wouldn't consider using Gumtree or preloved if I were trying to place either or both dogs. Keep trying with the breed rescues or animal rehoming centres OP.

This. I found my Newf by posting a preloved 'wanted' advert. If you act sensibly (meet the people a few times before the rehome, ask for reference etc) I can't see that you're any less likely to find a suitable home than a rescue would be - it's just more time-consuming for you.
 
I would look up breed rescue (through the breeders registered at the Kennel Club) in the first instance. Does their pedigree reveal who their breeder is - they might know someone looking. Then maybe tell your local rescues - some keep a list of offers for specific breeds. They won't intake them usually but might put you in touch. If you do put them on a free advertising site, please please don't do so for free, there are unscrupulous people out there who look for dogs for puppy farms, bait for fighting dogs or to sell on for a profit. Is there a breed rehoming group on Facebook? There are a few for Cavaliers, so might well be for dachs.
 
Thankyou for the replys, i do worry about them being bred from, they are very well bred daxys the previous owner, showed at crufts, and bred daxys { she bred them}, neither are spayed { i dont want the expense of spaying} i think my problem is i expect them to go together, so i will split them up, i didnt want to use preloved as you hear such horror storys. but i will not rule it out, if the people are well vetted by me.

I would definately spay before rehoming. Daxies are so popular at the moment. I think various charities will help you with this.
