Advice required please

Hi my sisters horse seemed a little off side today. Lethargic and quiet. Later saw that he had Diarrhea. He ate his dinner and is still drinking, but has a temp of 39.3 and hasn't eaten any grass since being put out at 6.30. Is stansing alone and feeling sorry for himself, but still has energy to stop you taking his temp and also to send other horses away.


He was out in a field of rich grass yesterday evening. Not sure if this has anything to do with it??

He is not dehydrated, but should I give him some eletrolytes. If so what???

Any advice. Quite worried??

I would say that he has tummy ache!

His temprature is elevated (normal horse temp is between 37.4 and 38.6). How is his pulse and respiration (pulse should be about 35-40 beats per minute at rest and respiration 8-16 breaths per minute). Given that he is also quiet and lethargic I would call the vet. He may have a virus but it would be best to get the vet's opinion.

Given that his tempurature is raised and you are saying he is not himself i would advise calling the vet out also

I'd not only call the vet, I'd immediately take the horse off the pasture and stable him. It could be gassy colic from gorging on spring grass.

I too, would get the vet, as his temperature is raised. And he's not himself. Hope he's ok, BS x

ditto b-o-f, there is also a slim chance it could be strangles so i would isolate it until the vet has seen it

call vet asap with temp like that it might be a lot of thinks put in stable with water !
