advice sort on purchace

Would you pick a laid back, easy going, genuinely honest, unflapable but green pony which has poor conformation - i.e. a fair set of cow hocks as a family pony. Usually I would not be anywhere near interested but I dont think I have come across such a laid back temperament in a youngster for years. I would be interested to know what others would think. Or is my heart ruling my head here?

depends on what you want to use him for. If he's not going to compete showing then it doesnt matter as long as its not going to cause him and health problems. Personally I wouldnt let it bother me at all, being a laid back quiet pony will more than make up for it!!

I would choose mental stability above all else for a family pony. My mum's horse has shocking hocks and she has done a lot of hunting eventing and showjumping and never had a problem behind.

If you are buying it to sell on then no, if you are buying it to keep get it vetted and see what the vet says

Wise words DieselDog. The pony is for my family but it would be foolish to buy something that cannot be sold on. None of us are aware of what is around the corner. Will take another look today and see if I think it is worth the risk.

A laid back temprament is far more important than its looks as long as it still can do the job, and as for selling on, your not in it to make a profit out of the pony but to bring on your little ones with confidence and enthusiasm, it will go a long way as a flashy little show pony may not be as chilled out or as fun and may put your kids off riding??!!
