Viewed a smashing horse, only 5 and a real genuine boy in all respects BUT he is a windsucker, mainly at mealtimes although it is controllable in the stable by collar. he has been seen to do it in the field on occasion too. Would any of you overlook this as he is such a great boy in all other areas or avoid at all costs? Got the feeling he is pretty bored atm and not getting a varied life so it could maybe improve once he is in a decent amount of work. He is not overly expensive and I am leaning towards overlooking the windsucking but wanted a few thoughts on it????

if £1000 or less and u like him i would go for it! obviously the price has to reflect this! also would you be able to get livery at your yard for a windsucker?

my mare does it, i wouldn't use the collar, i think they are cruel. I bought one and put it on her once and said never again.
I wouldn't let it put you off him, after all, there are other 'vices' that are much worse, ie bucking, rearing.
My horse has never had colic or bad teeth either so it doesn't always cause problems. Nobody on my yard worries about it, but it might be worth checking with yo that they don't have a problem with it as some people are funny about it.

Yes I would overlook it if everything else was good - though it may cause issues on some yards (my old yard used to bitch like hell about a little tb who did it, even though it never caused anyone any trouble).

Hmmm, have they tried an anti acid supplement oh him? windsucking is often caused by there being excess acid in the stomach so can lead on to things like gastric ulcers etc! if he is just what you want I would take him on but get the price knocked down and try him on an anti acid sup to see if it settles a bit!
