Hi all, I have a rice eventer trailer at the moment which is perfect when we take our ponies out and my horse fits in just fine with no partition. We traveled him last weekend for the first time with no partition and he really struggled to keep his balance with nothing to lean on.
I'm not sure what to do as he was fine untill we cornered then he scrambled about trying to get his balance. Is this a case that he might learn the more he travels or will he always struggle? Is there anything I can do to help him balance?

Why is he travelling with no partition? Is the trailer too small otherwise? Generally travelling with no partition is for when they scrabble WITH a partition.

Go much slower round the corners, let him find his balance. Don't worry about the traffic behind you, they'll be able to pass eventually.

He won't fit in the trailer with the partition. We really were crawling round the corners, rubber matting is down too. Might just have to look into a bigger trailer.

Did you have any bedding in there? Shavings is good to soak up sweat and give them some grip on damp rubber.

What height is the horse and what size horses is your trailer designed to carry?
If he's in a correctly sized trailer really he should fit in it safely with a partition.
My horse will fi in ours but he dislikes the partition being in as its fairly restrictive with him being on the maximum height and quite beefy with it (he does physically fit though) but ive looked a full length breaching bars so there is still something in front and behind him. Is this something that might help?

It was sold to me as being able to carry 2 ponies (up to 14hh) or one horse up to 16hh and he is only just 16hh.
Not sure what the manufacturer would state it should carry as I haven't been able to find much info about this model of trailer.
He has full length breast and back bars to brace against and seem to fit in fine with plenty of room. I'm not sure he has ever traveled with no partition before though x
