focus on how happy you will be jumping with doug and how bad you will feel if you dont do it, just go out and enjoy having fun with your horse, thats what its all about at end of day! i have my first xc in 4 weeks, 75cm and i was nervous but doing grids and trusting my horse i cant wait for it! this time last year i would not even sit on him! go for it! let us know how u get on! dont regret it live it!

You'll be fine!

I fully expect a photo report tomorrow

Besides, you've done those logs/ jumps etc in the field in your siggi ?
grin.gif
That was a suprise at the time wasn't it? Horses have a way of prooving us wrong when we're most worried!
tongue.gif

Have fun!!

You'll be fiiiine Rachael

Think of when you were jumping those logs in your sig, he was a good boy yes? And also, think how many times you've sat to his bronco fits before, just go and relaax and enjoy it
smile.gif
Even if you only jump 1 fence it is better than not going!!

OMG Lucky you, I would love to go with Charlie!

The ginger beast will be great and you will have a fab time
grin.gif

Have you got someone to take lot's of piccy's for you?

Millie is going for the first time next week as well

if you are nervous just jump one jump, you will feel better doing this rather than not going at all. You will prob have loads of fun once you get there.

I will try and get whoever is coming with us to take photos
smile.gif
I am absolutely sh!ting myself

I just really do not want to end up on the floor as usual. He bronked yesterday with me through water to the yard, and today we were riding next to a paddock with horses in, one horse trotted along the paddock fence which sent Doug loopy down a bank
frown.gif

The thing is im not actually scared of the jumping bit, I will go over anything really but just dont look forward to the landing and the bits inbetween jumping. Im really really really not looking forward to people galloping up behind us
crazy.gif

And this is the horse I want to go hunting on.... I think I should just give up now.

If he doesn't feel settled when you get to the XC course you don't have to jump, lead him round or lunge him for a bit if he is being a complete pain or just school him around the jumps until he settles.

Millie likes to play up at home but so far every time we have taken her out in the trailer she has been as good as gold, I bet Doug will be the same!

Don't feel under pressure to jump everything the others do, just do what you feel comfortable doing.

I'm sure he will be fine though and you will end up jumping some huge things by the end

Rachael, you will be fine, just go, take it slow (don’t let anyone pressure you), breathe and enjoy. One little tip, neck strap! If in doubt grab it and pull hard, use it to pull you into the saddle if needs be! I used my neck strap a lot on mine and Bodey’s first ever XC!

Dont be afraid to ask other riders who may be there to stop or slow down etc either. They'll understand - they may've been in that situation before too

Hopefully by the end we will be jumping Bodey size xc...but I doubt that very much

The course looks great

I would be exactly the same if I was taking Charlie, even though I know him inside out the though of just taking him out in the trailer gives me butterfly's.

Like you I would happily take any other horse, even one I hadn't ridden before. Doesn't make sense really but I think it's because if I don't know what the horse is capable of I don't need to worry about it until it happens, whereas with Charlie I know his worst and stress about it before it even happens which obviously doesn't help him either! Silly aren't we

Ohh god, the thought of meeting other riders on other horses, Doug was an idiot when he saw my friends horse in the field today let alone a group of riders charging past

Yep that is EXACTLY the same as me. If you told me to go xc'ing on Charlie I wouldnt even think about it, i'd be there straight away not really bothered if he happens to buck or bomb off etc. But on Doug, I know what he is capable of I suppose, some HUGEEEE bucks and bronks *shudders* So I just end up getting so nervous I do not enjoy it at all. Then in a way I feel guilty because if Doug had someone confident on his back he would be loving it
frown.gif

i thought you were going to offchurch uk chasers or moreton morrell?
anywayy im sure doung will be fine wherever you gooo!
grin.gif
at least you dont have to ride peps afterwards with all your bruises

I know how you feel, vbut I also know that no matter how nervous you are before, by the end of it you'll be totally exhilarated, wondering why you were so worried and planning the next time you can go round. So consider your backside well and truly kicked. Get some rescue remedy (I am so cynical about these things but my friend forced some down my neck last time I went XC as I was as white as a ghost and it definitely made a difference) and get going. Take it one fence at at time and get sat back up as soon as you can after landing. I second the neck strap and make sure everyone else in your group know not to gallop past you. I have the opposite problem in that mine won't let horses go off in front of him, but as long as he's first to go doesn't mind them coming past them, and I always make sure everybody with me knows it no matter where I am!
