OK so I start my new job in 2 weeks time and have the opportunity to take Finn to work with me.

The problem being is that it would mean leaving Tinker at home alone.

The boys are in seperate cages so not together, Tinker was at home alone beofre Finn came along.

Sooo do I jump at the opportunity and take my baby boy to work with me?

Finn is left alone when Tinks goes shooting once/twice a week... Tinks is left alone when I go out at weekends with Finn minus OH.

What would you do? Leave them both at home? Take Finn with me?

(Bare in mind - Finn is mine, Tinks is OH's)

Ta x

I've always wanted to take my poochy to work with me... Infact it was a major factor of changing job

Hmmmmmmm....

Well, I only say leave him at home as I don't think it would be fair on the other dog to be deprived of his mate all day - especially as he is now used to having Finny around.

Can't you take both of them??

[/ QUOTE ]I know that he will be alone however they don't interact they just sleep all day.

[/ QUOTE ]No - my office would only be big enough for one!!!

They're still company for each other though.........

Why not compromise and take Finn in just one day a week?

[/ QUOTE ]Would that not be as bad as everyday?

TBH I wouldn't take him to start with as want to get to know the job first!! but if I can I think it'd be a waste NOT to jump at the chance...

I dunno.. just feel bad for Tinks

What would Fin do in your office all day - sleep????

I just think it would be terribly unfair on Tinks as well - why deprive him of Finns company as well as yours?

Leave them both at home. They are used to being together alone during the day and Tinks might find it quite unsettling to be on his own again all of a sudden. He'll be there when you get home...honest!!

[/ QUOTE ]Tinker isn't my dog - he is OH's.. he's not deprived of my company as I have never been there all day fro him anyway.

Think I will have to see how things work out nad try and convince OH to take Tinks to work with him!!

[/ QUOTE ]I know - but if he were with me he wouldn't get bored.. I KNOW you'll say but then it's not fair for Tinks to be bored.. but I can't take both.. surely one would be better than the other?? Or not?? ..

Hmmmmmmmmmm

If you each took one to work with you that would be the perfect solution. They could bark about their day in the evening over their dog bowls!!!

Minnie spends all day with me, even thought i do work at home i have a seperate office and she chooses to come and sit most of the day with me, she doesnt get bored she likes keeping an eye on me and gets into my routine, she wakes up and starts stretching when its break/lunch time, and she loves getting visitors, she used to come to my shop with me as well and spent the day sleeping and eating treats form customers - doggie heaven really!

[/ QUOTE ]Naw - see it would be a bit more stimulating to go to work with me!! Bless him - at home he follows me like a lost sheep constantly.. it would be lovely to have him with me.

Are they both left in crates for the whole day?

[/ QUOTE ]Not the WHOLE day without breaks, no...

It really is weather dependant... if it's nice they have free roam of the garden.. if it's raining they prefer to come in to their snuggly beds...

They are out with us of a morning and are crated around 7.30am - I go home every lunch time (12.30ish) and they are let out and played with.. they are then let out again 4pm when OH's daughter gets home and I collect them at 5.30pm and they come to the yard with me for a coupel fo hours.. plus a walk.

I would be worried about unsetting the routine TBH. Didn't you have alot of problems with Tink's pooing and weeing? Is that sorted now? A change of routine may find you clearing up allsorts again left right and centre!!
It would be a great solution if you could both take your dogs to work though...

[/ QUOTE ]Yes we did have that issue with Tinks... and yes it has rectified itself... our nighttime routine has changed which seems to suit him... which is why I think the issues have stopped! - Plus his diet has changed which has resulted in much less waste - so less need to 'go' LOL!!

Leave them both at home, its not fair to take one and leave the other.

[/ QUOTE ]Hmm so if it fair when Tinker is off shooting adn finn home alone??

Leave them together its not really fair to treat them differently, worse case scenario is you'll provoke jealousy between the two I would have thought..

But why take your dog into work in the first place. I know it means you will have him with you all day, but what is he going to do while you are working? Sleep? or is he just going to distract you from your work, in which case are you sure your new employers will be happy with this arrangement?
It sounds like both dogs are settled into their routine at home and TBH I'm not sure I would disrupt this just so that I could have my dog with me at work...

[/ QUOTE ]Err the new employers are insisting I take him to work with me, they want to meet him and they take their dog too, so no he wouldn't JUST sleep whilst at work.

They can't do that pet. But by all means take him in so they can meet him.

But general consensus does appear to be ' leave sleeping dogs lie'......

[/ QUOTE ]They aren't insisting to the point that I HAVE to take him... I WANT to take him with me!!

The reason I said they are insisting is to make the point that they are not concerned getting distracted etc!!

[/ QUOTE ]I'm just going to trial it and see.... I'm afraid I may have to be selfish and do what I want - if Finny is happy then excellent and if Tinks is happy - excellent too!!
