Advise in choosing a stallion for my mare

I am considering recovering my mare as soon as she has foaled (any day) but need advise as I have no experience in breeding. She comes from Acapulco-Pyrrhus III-Trumf. Her mother was a showjumper at 130-140 level but very difficult to handle. My mare is very reactive and I'd like the foal to be easier to handle. I want a horse for amateur medium level dressage. Is this a stupid idea with her pedigree? I have understood that Acapulco was mainly a dressage horse? I am happy with my mare's canter but would maybe like the foal to have a better trot. Also I'd like the foal to grow quite big as I am very tall. My mare is 163cm. She is very nice to ride but her reactivity makes it a bit of a gamble every time... She is now foaling off Cartier vd Heffinck as I had to make a hurried decision last year what stallion to use and I heard Cartier has a very nice temperament and nice movements. How did I do with my choice? ;) This time I'd like some thoughts and ideas from folks that have more knoledge. She catches very well so I can use frozen as well as fresh and don't mind if the stallion is a little on the expensive side, just want a nice combination that would have little risk in the outcome as the foal would be a keeper.

All ideas greatly apperciated! :)

I think get one to the floor first and make sure she's healthy enough to rebreed. You'll not want to rebreed on the first season, she should be flushed out first and given time to recover.

That's correct. Assuming she will be in shape for rebreeding in the next month or two I need to make arrangements if I come up with a suitable stallion for her.

Relevant is available frozen or Rotspon, the R line produces good rideability but there are no guarantees with a hot mare and the foal will take a lot of the mares temperament more so than the stallion I'd say.

Why not sell the mare and foal and buy a nice dressage horse?

Thank you for ideas. Will definitely look into those stallions. :) She has produced foals before that have much easier temperament than she has so I think her problems might be partly due to something that has happened in her history. I have been thinking of selling her but with her temperament it would be hard to find a buyer who I could hand her over feeling at peace about it. Also she is 15 and takes ages to settle in a new places. So there is a chance that if I won't recover her I might put her down after weaning. She moves beautifully so it would be a shame. Difficult decisions.

As she sounds like she has been quite a servant to you, why not give her a respectful, peaceful and happy retirement. Something she perhaps deserves rather than a hole in the head.

I have only had for a year. I think with animals you have to think about their quality of life too. I also live in a climate where horses can't be left on the back paddock to have a happy retirement. But that is not the question here. If you have a lot of experience in breeding maybe you could share your knowledge with me? Would apperciate that.

Speak to Lorna at Elite Stallions. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding temperament, what type of foals the stallions throw, size etc. She will advise you of what stallion to use.
As to using a dressage stallion, why not if that's what you want to breed.

Thank you for your reply. Will look her up definitely. :) To my limited knowledge Acapulco was a dressge/eventing stallion so it made me dream of a dressage foal :)

I have a very quirky thoroughbred who I had to retire. She has had a great foal out out of Sylvester at WG Stud in Bicester. Sylvester has an awesome temperament and his progeny are doing great things plus his son is also standing. May be worth taking a look.
