Went up to check my horses on Saturday and my geldings back legs were really swollen from pastern up to hock, slightly worse on one leg than the other.

I moved him to a different field but there still seems to be no improvement, have cold hosed everyday and given him some bute altho hes not lame. have brought him in this morning to see if they go down in the day if if they're not down by lunch time ill phone the vet.

anyone have any ideas what it is/could be? It feels quite solid not fluidy

Does he have a temperature? Is there heat in the leg? Any obvious signs of injury (no matter how small)?

call the vet out i think putting him in the stable personally will make it worse because he will have less circulation flowing if he is stood still!

I'd call the vet. His probably better off outside tho like Babybells said, atleast he can move about and get the blood flowing?

I suggest calling the vet. One of my horses had the same thing last year. No lameness or sign of injury, no temperature, no lack of appetite or anything else suggesting infection, illness or anything else, just very very swollen legs. Started on 2 legs and then was all 4. The vet had never seen it in all 4 legs before with no accompanying signs of illness. Anyway, he gave him steroids and antibiotics and the swelling went down quickly and he was absolutely fine.

there is heat but his pulses arent raised, in both thats why I cold hosed it, no sign of anything but he does have a lot of scars on his leg so was thinking it could be through that but it seems odd its in both.

I was going to leave him out, like you all said but it doesnt seem to have made a difference him being out the last few days (hes always out 24/7) that why ive tried bringing him in to see if it gets better/worse.

I lunged him just in a marching walk yesterday to try and get the blood flowing but it made no difference. Going to check how he is at lunch time then will get vet out if no better/worse. Have phoned them once but waiting for him 2 call back

vet just phoned back sounds like its probably cellulitus - anyone had experiences with it? Going to check him at lunch time then report back if hes got better/worse being in then they will come out this afternoon!
