im moving to a different yard where there will jst be my two horses.

I intend to buy large haylage bayles and want advise on how best to open them to make them last as long as possible!! (i.e do you open all the wrapping off and expose it to the air or just keep it wrapped up as best as possible)

thanx in advance!

sorry im no help....

We always keep ours under tarp or find it drys out really quickly- we have four horses on it though so no fear of it rotting before we finish it.

If it's a really big bale take off all the wrapping and get as much air to it as possible - if it gets really warm then you may need to open up the sections too to allow air to circulate - otherwise you may find it going off quicker than you can use it!

In summer, as H's mum said, I'd rip all the packaging off and fork it about to dry. In winter, I cut the top open so it's a flap, then cover it with a tarp and a bungee. Mine lasts over 3 weeks in cold weather, less than a week in hot weather.
