Okie dokie, my 5y/o recently had an opp where the area around his high suspensory was destroyed so it could expand and ease pressure- this was on both hind legs. There is a proper name for it but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called.
I would like to point out the nerve was NOT cut, as often people mistake it.

Now up until end on may he was in full work.

Now, he will be coming back into work mid/end August.
The only thing Is there is a SJ clinic on oct 31st with my absolute idol.

Do you think that 2 months is too soon to be jumping?

I think I know the answer but I'm always being told I'm too soft and namby pamby. But I am not one to rush and I really don't want to do any long term damage.

I'm speaking to his vet tomorrow to ask her opinion.

Guessing as he'll be out of work for another 5 weeks, and he'll have been out of weeks for about that before the op, he'll have only just started trot work really?

Maybe ask around for a horse who'd like to go but has no rider?

It would possibly be a waste of the operation to take him.

These clinics often mean periods of standing then periods of going straight to canter and pop a few jumps.

Even pole work that soon would be stretching it IMO.

I don't think it's being namby pamby...it's ensuring the welfare of your horse.

Hope the recovery goes well. Xxx

A good rule of thumb is that they need as long to regain fitness as they have had off, so if they've been off 2 weeks, it'll take 2 weeks to get them back to where they were.

Your boy will have had 3 months off (end May to end Aug) and he'll have had an op to add to the recovery time so I'd guess it'll take at least 3/4 months to get him back to the level of work he was in before the op - so realistically Christmas time.

Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for.

Thought so haha. I knew the answer just thought I'd put it out there.

No horse unfortunately to ride that could do it but ill deffinatly watch and see if she remembers me from when I did work experience with her and locked myself out my car on her yard....

Ask around, definitely. You never know who's had a load of bad luck and would like their horse to benefit from it too. Maybe, if you can, put a video together showing your riding off and post on your local FB group explaining the situation someone might come forwards.

Definitely go and watch if not, I reckon I learn loads from watching my sister's lessons.
