OK – again a kind of follow on from Ciss’ post below.

Who would you prefer to register your foal with…AES (or SHGB) OR Z?? I know all the reason’s Ken has pointed out about the benefits of a Z passport/membership, etc. but I just wanted to get your opinions on here as to which you would prefer to register your foal’s with given the choice and which you think….at this stage….is the better one to use.

My foals for example have AES covering certs as their sire is AES graded however I could have them instead registered Z and thus branded, etc.
What would you guys recommend??? I know I can have them overstamped AES but not overstamped Z I believe.

Which would you prefer??

You probably know what I am going to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would really make no difference to me at all what passport a particular horse had.

Its the parentage printed on the passport that matters (particularly when I am looking at a youngster) and the horse's ability to do the job that it was firstly bred for and secondly what I am buying it for, sometimes not always the same thing.

I have chose to register all my horses AES because it is a recognised society (no matter what anyone thinks of it) my horses with limited parentage (and I have a couple) are accepted (under their level of registration) and passports are issued with full known breeding on them. It is also very convenient for me to gather all my paperwork together pay the cost and send it off.

For the reasons Cruiseline uses AES I use SHB. Z is not a studbook that interests me as I dont breed show jumpers.
However if I was buying a horse I wouldnt care which registry it was unless I was specifically buying a Trakehner for example. But I would want to see full parentage recorded on the passport, I've got one mare registered with Wetherbys NTR and they only print the sire, dam and grandsire - bloody annoying

Well, Ken said in another post that as the representative for Z you can get hold of him virtually 24/7 (unless he is at a party in Monaco!

). Surely that is enough reason to register Z....

Seriously, I agree with Cruiseline. It is not the passport that counts it's the breeding in the passport that is the important thing. I don't understand this obsession with 'names' that many people have. (having just noticed that I am wearing a pair of Armani trousers..

) I registered all my horses with the Selle Francais studbook but was critisized by many people because some of them could be registered Old or Holst and therefore be worth more. I never realised that certain passports can give horses wings.......

Perception is 90% of reality. Certain papers add value to foals, there's no escaping it.

DAHH, you live in France, you have no choice but to register SF or Z France. The point about the Armani trousers actually disproves the point you were making.

You might disagree, but the Haras Nationaux don't and as you should know, they control everything, even Z France is run in conjunction with the HN.

Of course if where you live and where the horses are bred is different, then you'd register with the local stud book.

...................but you take your own point about the trousers, right?
