....................or you could register the foal with Zangersheide
Here's how:
You need to become a member of Studbook Zangersheide, this costs 50 within Europe (UK and Ireland are in Europe!) and you can do this online at http://www.zangersheide.com, click on the English flag, then click on Stud book, then click on become members. Fill in the online form very carefully, making sure that you complete all sections, click on add to basket you can then pay by credit card. There is a list of member benefits at the bottom of this page.
Your mare(s) need to be registered with Zangersheide for breeding. Very simple, and a FREE service. Take photocopies of your mares papers, especially including the front page with her name life number etc. and the pages with her bloodlines. You might as well get them all done at the same time, and then send them to Zangersheide, Domein Zangersheide, B-3620 Lanaken, Belgium. You will then receive a registration certificate. If you already have foals on the ground this year, you can send in their details with the mare, to include covering certificate/birth certificate.
To register your foal you will need to send us the full birth certificate or covering certificate, normally within two weeks of birth. Dont panic if your foal is already a month old, just follow the procedure and youll get your foal registered. Just follow these steps:
1. The name of the foal should start with the first letter of its sire and cover 16 positions (letters) at a maximum, including spaces and compulsory Z-suffix.
2. If the dam is not yet known to Studbook Zangersheide, please enclose a copy of her ancestry papers. As above.
3. After Studbook Zangersheide has received the notification of birth, a foal inspector will set a date with you, on which the foal inspector will either visit you at home or at any other address to be indicated by you to sketch the foal and to collect hairs from dam and foal for the compulsory DNA-testing.
4. The mare's owner / owner of the foal will receive the European passport of the foal within 3 months after the notification of birth, but only if the registration fee is paid.
5. In short, to register a foal with Studbook Zangersheide, the following requirements should be met:
a. Submit original notification of birth to Studbook Zangersheide and state the name of the foal
b. Submit copy of the dam's ancestry papers to Studbook Zangersheide
c. Sire must be licensed under a studbook recognized by WBFSH
d. As Studbook Zangersheide prefers to leave nothing to fate, every foal will undergo DNA-testing, both for the sire's and the dam's side. That is why it is important the DNA profile of the sire is known, or that material is available for DNA-testing.
e. An exception to the all-in rate (150) is made for foals to be inspected outside a radius of 500km from Zangersheide in Lanaken. For these foals, the travel expenses of the foal inspector will be charged additionally. Normally around 50 payable to the inspector.
Alternatively, you can come to the Zangersheide Foal Festival at Quainton at the end of July, and have the registration, DNA sampling and branding done at the same time.
