Daughter has a fantastic little welsh cob that we have had on loan for a year. She did nothing but hack and a little schooling with her owner .She is a great jumper and doing well at local shows .Our instructor has told us tonight and the yo that we should affiliate her she is 14 1 and will jump 3 3 with ease and spreads inc grid work she can clear by 2ft if she feels the need.I dont know anything about competing although we go to local shows and pc.
I assume we will have to amend insurance for competition work any other info would be appreciated.

Show jumping but she loves xc .I think the travelling might be a major issue in our area..We are on the coast near Gt Yarmouth and have to travel for pc.

BSJA affiliation is pretty expensive (IMO!) - have you thought of maybe trying the Trailblazers competitions first? They have different height classes and are run under BSJA rules and you don't have to worry about paying a membership fee. Plus, you know you're going to get a decent standard of organisation, fences etc and can qualify for the finals at the end. If all goes well with them then maybe consider affiliating.

Yeah but the total cost of going to finals with stabling, diesel etc is about the same price as a years BSJA affiliation fee

BSJA is a lot cheaper then BE and the classes are cheaper

Also if you are a pony club/riding club member then you get a discount for the first two years you join BSJA

Ah yes but personally I wouldn't go to the finals. A friend of mine went and yes it was extortionate! My thoughts were it sounded like the girl maybe hadn't done much and they are unsure of the capabilities of the pony at this stage so trailblazers could be something to start at to see how they get on before commiting yourself to BSJA membership. If they did a 6 mth one like BE then that would be better.

Don't get me wrong I used to compete at BSJA all the time but then horse and me lost confidence but i still felt I had to go cos I'd paid to. I finally decided not to renew and once the pressure was sort of off we're both doing better. I may even re-affiliate this year, although he's 17 now and has decided he much prefers BE but my nerves can only get us round Intro I think and typical my horse should choose to like the most expensive sport! Will keep on my day tickets for now!

Oh, and quick note re insurance - depends who you're insured with whether it would affect your premium but yes you would have to let them know.

Can you give me some idea of costs involved membership annual or day tickets and also trailblazers info. This is all new to us daughter is only 14 and not highly competitive but enjoys doing well.
Will have to speak to owner as well bit of a shock really I knew they were both good but not to that standard.
