Hiya, i am planning on affiliating Beau this year as having a gap year to start her eventing career. Im getting a lorry start of jan and then plan to be out dressaging/sj/and xc schooling then will hopefully be prepared for march for our first intro! Ok, so, should i bother registering her now or wait till she has been on a few outings... i was hoping to do some JAS and grasshoppers (one of which you have to be affiliated for... which one?).

2nd Question, her registered name (on passpot etc) is Lady Bonita Fire, i dont like it and want to affiliate her as something else (ive asked this Q before but not many answers..) what should i go for...?
Bonita Fire,
Lady Bonita,
Bonita de feu... any other ideas welcome!

photos of her on post
hello my name is beau

thankyou for your help!

You need to be affiliated for JAS or can do on a ticket. Would be easier to affiliate early rather than pay extra.

You will need to check ith BE but I have a feeling you have to register as the name on the passport.

Good luck - where are you planning to do your first events?

As long as you have a covering letter from a vet confirming that the horse named in the passport competes as whatever you chose to name it, then that should be fine. A friend had to do this as the name in passport was completely different to BE registered name.

My horses name is slightly different in the passport, but only by losing the last bit, so it's still recognisable as her - if that makes sense! As in if your passport is Lady Bonita Fire and registered her as Lady Bonita, that would be fine!

Mel - tia's passport name is Tia Maria but BE had about 6 of them so she events under Lady Tia - would I need a covering letter?

Pretty sure you dont as have a friend registered BE as chubbs and on passport Rainbow... hopefully do Munstead... then in april there are lots that are a bit closer to me... whats Munstead like first-event wise?

I didn't like my horses given name but still used it when registering with BE - another horse already had it so had to use her name but with II on the end. Some events check passports and there may be a problem if a different name is used.

Might be a good idea to do a few events on a ticket to see if it agrees with you and your horse before taking the plunge. Could be expensive if you didn't take to it.

Yes probably because it is a different name - if BE looked at the name on the passport (which usually they dont!) they could say that it isn't her passport.

Mine shows on passport as the name I registered her with, plus Henrietta on the end, so have only dropped the Henrietta bit so it still her name - if that makes sense!

Gotcha - will bear that in mind! Thankyou

eeeh so the crazy lady who sold her and named her will forever haunt me...!

So BASICALLY it would be easier to affiliate her as Lady Bonita Fire however Lady Bonita or Bonita Fire may be acceptable but not as straight forward...?

Would be worth checking with BE coz I can only comment on what I've experienced and I wouldn't want to say, yes that'll be fine, only for you to get to first event and them not to think it's fine and not let you compete!!!

lol ok then thanks, i think i might email them then.

Lady Tia, whats the course like, anything unusual that we should practice first!?!

Irish Draught... Im pretty sure she will be fine with it, she loves all phases separatly so i dont think there will be a problem with putting them all together...!

how long can it take for a registration to go through? i know BD can take a while but you can still compete if its not quite through yet... the JAS we were thinking of doing is relatively soon...

sorry to ask but busters name on his passport is just buster but under BE he is captain buster. bath and west kicked up a stink about it but i have herd they always do, no 1 else has ever said anything so i havent thought any more of it. i have the vet coming to look at another horse on thursday would it be worth getting her to do a letter or is the fact that 'buster' is on his passport eonugh?

You can register on line or print the forms off and send in - relatively quick in responding, perhaps a week or two.

If you are thinking of registering, do it now before they get the new year rush!

They got a bit funny with me towards end of season at one event as reg BE name slightly different from passport. Were threatening not to allow me to compete - 1st time this has ever happened but think everyone was just a bit touchy re FMD. Checked with BE office after and they said it was OK for vet to just scribble on her passport .. also known as ....

It's definitely easier to register her with the same name as on her passport. I saw someone being given a terrible time by the secretaries when they tried to get the numbers for a horse registered under a different name. They had a signed letter from their vet but I'm not sure whether they were allowed to run in the end. It's ridiculous really because in fifteen years of competing I've only once had the horse's markings checked to see that they match the passport.
BE will do the registration very quickly. They're very efficient and helpful. Good luck!

OK.. really nice course!
1st jump is really inviting.. followed by a bullfinch fence.. followed by just an upright.. then a bench.. then a double of pallisades then a flowery jump i think.. then a log on what could only just be described as a 'drop' then.. just another upright.. then a pallisade on approach to 'the puddle' then a pallisade drop log..then a ditch and pallisade then a house then a white type thing then just 2 simple fences to finish! Nothing of it is really bigger then 2'9 bar the bullfinch thing! Really good first event - it will hopefully be mine! Hope this helps xx

ok so nothing too scary or questioning!?! what do you mean by

'a log on what could only be described as a drop'?

so a log on the top of a step...? (jumping into nothingness?)

Loving the puddle!!!

aw, thats not very helpfull... we are purple with white stars... well be the ones standing on our back legs. how fun. anyway im sure well talk before, if not maybe see you there!

Most places won't even notice, but there will be the odd place that will and you run the risk of not being able to compete.
