I adore the breed as a neighbours family had one years ago, he was GORGEOUS and so very exotic!
Are they rare in the UK?
Does anyone here have one & what are they like?
(Pics would be wonderful lol)
❤

I don't know much about them tbh, I see a few of them near where I live. And the local indoor riding school used to be rented out once a week by a woman who bred afghans so that she could exercise them (could never work out if its because she didnt want them getting dirty in a muddy field or if they had no recall?)

Its nice that everyones got different taste in dogs as I personally really don't like them! I think it must be their silly long coat that looks like a flying carpet and they always seem neurotic and trembly! (in fact so do all the red setters I've seen but I don't mind them!)

I haven't but I would spend some time with them before I got one! As far as I know from talking to people who have them they are completely scatty and almost untrainable! Not sure whether they are all like that, but the ones I know are :D

We hav lots at the bsfa ( British sight hound field association)
Very keen on the lure but lovely watch when showed
Not sure wot they are like as a breed or as a pet ,,but the pups are so lovely n don't get their adult coat until a lot older

My only personal experience with Afghan Hounds was with one we had staying with us briefly when I was a kid. She was independent, not interested in following instructions and not very interested in us kids, either. I really wish things with her had ended better than they did. She was a spoiled show dog, and 'no' obviously had not been added to her vocabulary. It wouldn't put me off spending time with others, though. I'd never judge an entire breed based on one dog who lost the plot! My daughter thinks they are just beautiful, and personally, seeing them always reminds me of shampoo ads. Why? Because she's worth it... ;)

Edited to add that I do not think all show dogs are spoiled, just that this dog in particular was a show dog who happened to have been spoiled.

All the Afghans I have ever met have been completely bat***** crazy! They're pretty but I couldn't cope with their appalling lack of brains :P

I have an Afghan x greyhound - technically a longdog although I call him a lurcher to keep it simple. Well, I actually call him my skinned Afghan if I'm honest as he has a short very soft coat! I'm not sure which breed is responsible for what, but he is energetic (he's 10 now and still acts like a youngster), cuddly, loyal, playful and and his recall is pretty good TBH!
