I am so glad September 2015 is over because frankly it has been the worst month we've had in the 6 years I've had my BP. Thank you to everyone who wished us well when I posted before, I really needed the support at the time.
I posted previously about him being too big for the MRI and it ended up being another 5 days before they eventually diagnosed his crippling lameness coming from an infected pastern joint. He got rushed into surgery on a Sunday afternoon to have it flushed and that's when I realised how serious this was. I asked if surgery was essential as I knew the risks of a GA with a big horse are massive and got told "it's the best chance we have of him surviving this." I hadn't realised until that point that he wasn't fighting for a return to galloping and jumping but even just to be a field ornament.
He got through it (because he's a trooper and a legend) but the vets were still concerned with how and why it had happened (no sign of injury or foreign body) how long it had been present and what his chances were. We reached another stage about 5 days later when they decided to medicate the joint with steroids which was the kill or cure point - literally.
The vets remain concerned it could return at any point and we really don't know what we can expect for his recovery but I can't worry about that at this stage.
I have cried a river for him lately but to see his gorgeous, enormous, white face over the stable door this morning excited to be home has been a feeling unsurpassed by any rosette he's ever won. My boy made it home!

It must be wonderful to have him home again after his life being in the balance like that. I really hope that he fully recovers and doesn't have any further issues.
