My youngster has blown an abscess in his heel bulb and through the central sulscus of his frog. He was never overtly lame, so it's come and gone quite quickly. After cleaning his foot last night I could see that there has been quite a deep thrush infection in his frog as well (making me feel really guilty that I hadn't noted it before
).
Last night I tubbed his foot with dilute betadine, and I've packed the split in his frog with gauze soaked in betadine, but left it uncovered. I left a note to say that he should be off grass until further notice, so he'll be in a winter pen (hard standing) with hay.
I'm just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing? I'm hoping to try and get hold of a farrier to come tomorrow morning to address the trim, and hopefully tidy up his frog(s); but until I can get a farrier to come... should I switch to RH hoof stuff? wrap the foot? Anything else?
He's not shod, so that's not an issue.
TIA
