Further to my post yesterday of Carolines week with the Egypt Horse Project, I woke up to this post from Ashleigh of the rest of that day.... what Caroline hadnt said was that little Shae, a foal dumped at the stable with malaria, strangles and pneumonia had slipped away that morning.
The mention at the beginning of this post is about a horse that Ash PTS as it had been galloped in the desert and broken both its front legs, now the owner wants paying for it as he says Ash didnt have his permission to PTS
"After a nightmare with the owner of the horse in the desert I finally managed to call the man who collects our horses for disposal only to be told he won't come because he is having a holiday.
So I managed to tuck tiny Shae's body into a chaff bag and put him in the bottom of the carriage. He seemed so small laying there in the carriage. His was such a strange death even after hours of being gone he was still warm and his limps flexible. Even last night when he went he never went cold not like Amal and Saria had.
I found myself today peeping under the blanket I put over him and stroking him because he just looked like he was asleep. I took Sindibad out into the desert loaded with Shae, a bale of hay and a lighter. It was dark by now but I knew where I was taking him. I found Tiny's huge body laying in the desert and I got Shae out of the carriage and put him tucked up against her. I then covered them in hay and fought the wind to start the fire, I was so strong until Ahmed told me he was happy that Tiny would be taking Shae to Rainbow Bridge because Shae was to little to get there himself.
Then I cried and cried while I watched the fire until Sindibad took it upon himself to make off with the carriage. As I looked back at the big fire in the desert I imagined Tiny, making a fuss over Shae and treating him like the foal she lost last year. Shae turned a year old this month so it was very fitting. I hope they will be waiting at Rainbow Bridge for me."
