After my fall I took a look at my hat :o

Yesterday I had a fall from my young horse after he was spooked by an idiot driver. I fell off into a sand school, and yet it was still hard enough to completely displace the front panel of my hat, separate the inner from the shell, and pull the lining away from the harness.

Any recommendations for a new hat that meets the new regulations?

Hi PF I'm OK.

I had a CT scan because I lost about 15 minutes, I have no recollection of the fall or of the next few minutes. Apparently, after I put my horse away, I went back round to the school and asked which of my horses I had been riding :o

But apart from being a bit stiff and sore, and developing some interesting bruises I'm OK.

Sorry about your fall, youngsters are such pratts! Your hat responded as it is designed to do, that's the result of all the impact absorption and the reason the manufacturers advise you to buy a replacement after any fall (and also a useful exercise in built in redundancy).

Glad to hear you are OK. If your fall did that to your hat, imagine the headache (or worse) if you'd not been wearing it!

Thanks for publishing the pics. If anyone was in any doubt as to the need to wear a hat whenever you're mounted no matter what you are doing I think you have proved the point.

So glad to hear you are ok!
I had a similar hat-breaking fall a few months ago, landed head first and peak and side of hat were smashed but I walked away with bruising and sore and stiff!

I replaced my JTE with a Champion skull cap that fits requirements (I think all Champion hats do?) - however if you have a local tack shop I would go in and ask and have a look yourself as they should be able to advise on what fits the new standard and you can try a few on as well :)

Good job you were wearing a hat - imagine what your could be looking like without it!

Cannot recommend a hat as it really should be fitted, any suggestions may be irrelevant.
