After neutering?

Huntley was neutered almost 3 weeks ago, he is fine in himself, he's eating and drinking well.
My question is, he seems to have lost his spark? He used to bomb along, really athletically. I know he will be calmer, but he seems a bit well, dim?! He has also got a bit frightened of other dogs. He was too scared to go past another dog today, for no apparent reason.

I've only had 3 dogs (as opposed to bitches) neutered - there was no difference in their behaviour at all. I suppose it depends on the individual dog? I wouldn't be worried personally, he will come back, some take longer than others :)
 
Erik was a bit glum for a while after he and his nuts parted company. I think he was uncomfortable for a time after the op :(

He's a happy little terrier now though, although he loathes the vet (loved them pre-op).
 
What age is he? They do go though fear phases at certain ages so worth checking.
Depending on the individual the anaesthetic can have some ongoing tiredness etc....ie some people are back to nornal the next day,others still feel lethargic weeks later.
It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to have the testosterone leave the system completely so its a little early for the removal of this to be the issue
 
Was he nervous at all before being neutered? Unfortunately I think one of the big downsides to neutering an already anxious male dog is that it can make them more nervous as testosterone can act as a confidence boost.

Regarding the lack of spark, has he been like this since the neutering op? I would consider just having him checked over by your vet for any underlying reason for this - as, generally, neutering does not, contrary to popular belief, calm a dog down (as excitable behaviour is seldom influenced by testosterone).
 
No, he wasn't nervous, he's always been a very happy friendly dog, always wants to play, really just the nicest dog I've ever experienced. He did still play with a dog when I went to pick up my car, as he normally would, it's just random dogs ( maybe I should ask owners if their dog is entire, might that be the reason?).
He has been like this since the op, I wondered if it wasn't just that he was still feeling a bit rubbish, and a bit sore ( the scar looks pretty good).

What a handsome dog and great photo! I would keep an eye on him and try to make his associations with strange dogs as positive as possible and see how he gets on.
