It would have been stopped if it was a different material rubber etc would have not made a cut may have bruised but not cut an artery
after todays flag incident at badminton......

I havent read any of the replies.
When i was in WEG last year, the fence (bank) with the tiny skinny (very similar to back at fence 8 at badders) i am pretty sure the flag/posts were made of very flexible material.
Shame i dont have my WEG DVD here to watch, but i am pretty sure when a horse ran out/or went off centre the posts just bent and went back to its original position.
Severnmiles, that must have been horrific.
Lookout (julie tews horse) did something similar, obviously and thankfully recovered, but that too staked itself badly in the field after trying to jump out.

we used to have flags at our yard that were plastic and had about 5 inches of spring at the bottom so they bent over and pinged back up again (slowly and not at all hard). dont know if they still do them
