Well, it's all in the title really-would it really matter to you if a person looking for a position as a working student was more 'mature' than the average?

Would you insist on a teenager, or would you take on anyone regardless, as long as they showed a willingness to learn?

Answers on a postcard please:D

If you are older, it does not mean you are not as fit though, or less flexible. totally depends on the individual. I know a few older ladies that are double my age and fitter than me....and I dont class myself as unfit. Personally I would go for the older person and thats only because I think they would be more experienced in the way of work experience....Ie less likely to phone up and say im not coming in, I have a hangover or I cant be bothered today.

Just wanted to point out I didn't mean older people aren't as fit.

I ment I would go for someone who is capible of a physical job over their age.

I know quite a few 'fit' teenagers who are the laziest little sods and would rather employ their mothers!!

Your older person will probebly be conscientous, have some good work ethics, be reliable - not so inclined to party hard and get a hangover.

Certainly don't sismiss them because of their age.

as one of those older working students I am incredibly grateful to the people who gave me the opportunity to do an NVQ at the age of 50. I completed the work in 6 months and my assessor said the work I produced was the best she had seen and easily at the next level (ie doing level 2 but work suitable for level 3).

In that time I did everything asked, and more, was never sick, or late and think was an employee that could be relied upon in any circumstance.

So if anybody is considering an older applicant, I would urge you to give them a chance.

Hey hey, sounding hopeful so far;) The reason for me asking is that a friend of mine recently told me that she has been turned away from every rs/training places that she has contacted, for being too old at the grand old age of 26!!
Does anyone else feel that this was unfair, especially since they never even met her face to face?
