Hey :) I know I'm jumping the gun a bit (baby isn't due to be born for another 2weeks! :D)
But when did you/your children have their first ride? Or 1st pony?
I would love to get baby a pony for when she's about 2/3.
Will take her to ride a friend's pony first to see if she likes it :)
I've been Shetland hunting, if a little prematurely... :D

My kids always had ponies and donkeys before they could even walk my granddaughter was given a four month old colt for her 2nd birthday sadly he isnt a kids pony so she now rides my Highland. She is 10 now and rides independently but she is not a very bold child so every small step has to be done with that in mind. She spends more time frightened than doing very much and we dont see as much of her was we would both like

I rode from the age of 3, got my first pony at 9 years old - he was a whizzy little section B we bought from the field - because we couldn't catch him. Turns out he was a pony club ledgend that ended up in the wrong home - luckily we bought him and he taught me everything.. Had him 10 years and had him pts earlier this year..
I only had to wait as long as I did to show I was committed! :)

I started riding at age 7. Got my first pony at 13. She was a 6 year old 14.1 speed freak! She did teach me how to sit a rear though and was a plod with a novice. Prior to me getting her she had been jumped alot and only jumped when she felt like it.

when i was born my three older siblings and i got 2 ponies to share, and 18 years on we still have skippy but sadly tiger passed away a few years ago... i think because i have only ever known horses and nothing else i naturally grew to love it, i would say i properly started riding at the age of 2 though

Sat on since a v young age, mum used to pick me up from playschool on her horse, started riding lessons at 6 when you could, and got my first pony for £200 aged 7. :)

Started riding at 9, got my first share horse at 15- he's a little 5 year old cob who has taught me so much in such a short space of time.

My daughters 1st pony arrived when I was 7 months preggers :D

My mothers driving sheltand was coming back off loan from a very active PC and driving home, for a quieter life.
We found a lovely lady with a small child to take her on for 2 years at my yard, but I was allowed to pop my sprog on during school times etc.
She properly got going at about 2 & completed a mini 3 mile sponsored ride at 2.5 yrs :D and was bombing about at PC by 4..... :o

My daughter started riding when she was about 5/6 I think and we bought charlie last year when she was 9,she's just turned 10 and charlie is 5 in two weeks :p they're both inexperienced but charlie is an angel and I have to say that they are both growing in confidence together :)

Thanks for your responses :) I've been thinking of getting a Shetland after next summer, I'd love to get a little trap and have it as ride and drive. And it would be a nice little companion for my big boy, although I realise I will have to intensify the fencing to keep the little monkey in :)
