I was walking my very submissive labrador on the lead this morning and passed some companion cyclists. They stopped because there was a lot of people congregating in the park at this point. With one of the helpers was a big male staffie type dog, I asked if it was alright as it was coming towards me and my dog she replied it is fine. At which point it ran at me and snapped and growled, the dog and I nearly had a heart attack, she shouted at it and apologised and thank god it didn't actually bite either of us.
It just makes me so cross I just want to walk the park and relax, having had my previous labrador properly attacked by two out of control greyhounds resulting in a lot of blood and stiches, and having been snapped at by a staffie before, where fortunately my husband was with me and managed to kick it off us as it meant business (he only kicked it when it actually was trying to bite his legs as he came in front of me to protect me as since the greyhound incident I freeze up and just feel sick), I am nervous and do ask people when their dogs are bounding towards me if they are friendly, of course they always say yes often replying in quite an aggresive manner.
I just want a nice relaxing walk! Would you report this incident? What is the best tactic against aggresive dogs, at this point I am really put off walking in the park due to my experiences which annoys me!
