I walk my lot on a footpath near my house which leads to quite a large open field so I can see if anyone else is on there with another dog which is where I then let them off the lead.

My OH and I were walking the 3 of them down the path toward the field today when 2 GSD ran up to them and starting snapping at my 2 JRT's, Holly is a total wimp and cowered behind me, Jake is really aggressive so he was at their throats. At this point the other one dived on my English Mastiff, who my OH had on the lead. He promptly threw it about 10 feet in the air!!!!!
My OH tried to put himself between our lot and the GSD's and they tried to bite him and would have if it had not been for my EM who went beserk trying to get them(he is very protective) During all this the owner came running up the path red faced and puffing swearing and screaming at ME!!

He threatened to call the police, said my dogs should be put to sleep and attempted to kick my EM!!:mad: but could he get his dogs back on a lead? It literally took him a good 10 mins of chasing them and jumping on them till he could get leads on them. I really thought my OH was going to smack him and set Sonny(the EM) on him.

At no point were my dogs off the lead, I did not attack him nor allow my dogs too. Yes I have one very large dog but he is a total softy unless provoked and he only went for the dogs who were attacking him not the man. I was screaming at him because lets face it I was going to give as good as I was getting.

What would you have done in this situation? Do you think I should report him if I can find out who he is? I am worried his dogs may kill another one if he cant control them.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Twinings tea and Digestive biscuits if you got through it :)

I probably would have smacked the fella out:mad: esp today, I had a horrendous raging ear infection and im in alot of pain:( my OH definately would have handed him a left hook and my dogs who like your would mind their own business unless trouble came to them would have had them, my deerhound, akita and a my pitt x staffi would be the first in and I would not restrain them either if it meant I or my smaller dogs would be hurt.

I would then have reported him to the police, descripton of him and the dogs and the dog warden, if they have him on report then if it happens again he will be in bother, they are clamping down on ******** dog owners now.
Good job you had big dogs, dread to think what would happen if it had been little un's.

This time of night, I'm on serious amounts of red wine, behave with your talk of Twinings tea and digestives!

It's my constant moan, other dogs attacking mine on leads-so effing annoying!

If you see him again at a distance, walk away if poss or shout at him to ask that he put his foul dogs on the lead. As his dogs were obviously attacking yours and yours were on the lead, I would explain this to him (as he obviously is tunnel visioned!) and say that he ought to keep his dogs on the lead or you will be calling the dog warden. Am astonished that he said that about your dogs!

Someone suggested a water pistol-dunno if you can carry one of those massive shooters and have dogs on a lead??

Lol Cayla wish I had a pittXstaffi I could have set on him!!!

Cinnamontoast- Im on serious painkillers after a horrible fall from my 4 yo so all im allowed is tea :(:( really need wine though!!!!

I think I may ring up and report him tomorrow, I was fuming, Im in a lot of pain and struggling just to walk so was quite stressful. Normally I walk the EM and OH walks the Jacks but Im glad I wasnt today as im sure I wouldnt have been able to hold him. Was quite impressive the height he was throwing the guys GSD's, they backed off him and picked on the Jacks but he wouldnt let the b******s near the little ones thank god.

It was all I could do to control 3 dogs and my OH and try and keep to big dogs away, was crying on the way home I was so p****d off!! (I sound like such a pansy lol)

Honest answer? I would have cried like a baby!!
I had several walkers tell me that my dog is dangerous and that she should have been PTS (old, wimpy Rhodesian Ridgeback). I told them to sod off.

If something had attacked one of my old two I would have let the ridgy give it a good telling (bless her, she would have too!) to save myself.

I would get in touch with your local dog warden and report him. How on earth can he hold you responsible when your dogs were on lead and his were clearly out of control. I don't suppose the police would be interested but if you tell the dog warden it will be logged. Try and give a good description of him and the dogs, and if you can find out where he lives so much the better. If you want to carry something as a defence the Pet Corrector sprays are quite good, let off a noisy blast of air and do make a dog stop and think ime. If you sprayed Evie with a water pistol she would be in heaven and would probably follow you home :D (not that she would have been attacking yours I sincerely hope).

I think I will try and report him today. I am going to have to wait for OH to get in before I go and walk them today. Such a waste of the sunshine :(

prob kicked the dogs off mine first then kicked the bloke into next week you have to remember its not the dogs fault its the bloke at the end of the lead thats caused the problems ive had loads of gs's and they have all been brill

Totally not your fault!!! His fault for having them off the lead and attacking your dogs. Report him the way he ranted at you was completely out of order and he deserves it.

Report the owner to the dog warden, if yours is any good & the police. At least then they will have a record of him. I find a heavy bunch of keys on a shortish piece of rope wonderful at subduing an 'over enthusiastic' (ahem) dog, especially if you are on target & whack their nose.

I think that the dog warden is the best bet. Im not sure if the police will do much, am i right in saying they only tend to get involved if a human has been attacked/bitten? It dosen't sound like its your fault - i've had a few incidents like it before, one guy said that if my dog was 'nervous' then i shouldn't walk it! Bearing in mind this was after his 3 terriers pinned her to the ground! Doh! Keep heart!
