Hi guys,

A friend has ranging if I have any advice experience with ulcers as one of her friends at a livery is having some real issues with there horse.

The horse has been on the yard for 4 years after its was brought from a dealer at 5 and is a mare. The horse had never been sick or sorry up until this year . Since then she has had lameness issues and ulcers. Apparently she was always a bit mare ish and could be moody if in season . But except that has been a great horse is only used for hacking as her rider is mature.

They mare started being extremely grumpy when rugs being change, brushed or tacked up . Kicking and biting . This continued and she wasn’t in season. They hack her most days, she was out 24/7 brought was brought in every day for feed. They had the vet out and confirmed it was ulcers she was treat and given an injection. Soon she was back to normal. She had been scooped but kept getting nose bleeds.

Then there was a bit of lameness which vet said was a pull. After some light work she was fine. She recently come into season however she no longer in season but has becomes dangerous and aggressive. They can’t get near her to get rugs off or work her she kicking and biting much worse. They have said they think it maybe because the turnout is limited to 6 hours a day and there not a lot of grass. But when she’s been in they have been making sure she is slow feed to keep her grazing . She was in last winter like this but didn’t behave like this . There try to make sure she worked every day , turned out in a routine , grazing slowly , they have her on healthy tum and an ulcer supplement. But is there any thing else they can do or anything else that could be causing it.

If she doesn’t calm down in the next few days there gonna get the vet .
