Horse has come in tonight lame

not just slightly lame either, but very ouchy even just stood there. I'm pretty sure he's done something to his hock, its slightly swollen and much much warmer than the other, plus he cant step back on it

and just stands there resting it. He also has a small bog spavin that has appeared. He was fine this morning, however the field has been very wet from where all the snow melted, and is quite poached in places, what with this cold snap its rock hard and therefore quite unlevel, I'm wondering if he's sprained it (if thats even possible?).

I was hoping that 2010 was going to be better than 2009 (major lameness issues with one of the others), but seemingly its already off to a bad start. Please can I have some nothing seriously wrong vibes for poor B

Thanks everyone.

Vet will be called in the morning....we don't have a concrete yard (its a mud bath atm) so its not really suitable for a late night vet visit. I've thoroughly checked the area and there is no sign of any cut, and he's quite happy stood in munching his hay and not at all distressed so I am happy to leave him until first thing tomorrow.
