Hi people, literally about to drag my horse in to plait him etc for novice ridden and riding horse class today (only our second showing class). HOWEVER i have been given some conflicting advice, and it also conflicts on here....do i wear a tweed or a black jacket??? I have both so not a problem, however i have been told that black is more correct as horses are finer e.g. than hunters, but then someone i was speaking to yesterday, and also posts on here say tweed! Only a local show so it probably doesnt matter, but i'd like to be correct. I have a black jacket or a grey tweed.

Also, i have also been told that a woman should never wear black - need to buy a more 'showing type' hat, should i be buying this in navy? Have a navy jacket as well but current hat is black so not wearing this today!

AGHHH showing is SO confusing!

THANKS!!

Hi Kittykatcat - tweed is strictly correct for riding horse classes (at least at affiliated shows so I guess for all) but I imagine for small local show it won't matter too much. I'd wear tweed though.

Black v navy - navy definitely correct for women in show ring so if you have to buy new then yes, buy navy!

Good luck today!!

It's morning, wear tweed.

If you're buying a hat buy navy, but if you have a black hat for now wear it! I've shown most of this season in a black hat.

Most of all, enjoy, no matter what you're wearing!!!

Kittycatkat - mis read your post and assumed that the black/navy question referred to jacket. I see you mean hat in which case black hat is absolutely fine with tweed!

THANKS SHOWING BOFFS! This World of showing is terribly confusing - but quite enjoying it, well enjoyed the last show anyway and we did quite well...fingers crossed for today...think i'll just SMILE and hopefully no one will notice i'm an amateur without a clue! Last time, i was pulled in second and i thought they were asking me to change the rein LOL!

Do you think it will be judge ride today? It's a small local show...is that normal?

I doubt the judge will ride as it's local, but be prepared just in case! Also be prepared to run up inhand, but again that's unusual at local shows. I agree that there's lots of little things to think about with showing, but the main thing is that you both look smart and look like you're enjoying it, I always look too serious!

Hope it goes well!

Agree with Fihunt that judge is unlikely to ride but be prepared. Just one tip - make sure that stirrup irons can take a larger foot - if judge is a man he may have wider feet and this can often be a problem!

Only if you can do it very well - bad quartermarks look awful! Wouldn't worry too much at this level I don't think but do it if you want to...

Have fun!
