i called twice yesterday left message on mobile and text him once. I would like my shoe put back on my horse. I think they have this clan going where they ignore your calls, i know other people who have the same problem. im bit cross as want to ride tomorrow.

Speaking as a farrier's wife, this is a very busy time of year to fit in all the horses before the Christmas break, which is compounded by the short daylight hours as not everybody has lighting on their premises. Your farrier is probably scratching his head and working out how to fit your horse into his busy diary! Of course, it would be polite of him to ring back straight away and explain, but he is probably scared you will give him an ear-bashing if he can't come out pronto!

well i agree with that but a return of phone call would be really nice so at least i know when he will turn up. If i didnt return my customers calls i wouldnt have any!!

[/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately the traits that are commensurate with being a good farrier don't often naturally tend to coincide with those of a good administrator or businessman! I organise all my husbands appointments for him, which helps a lot, but I do sometimes get the desire to delete phone messages and pretend I didn't get them, because sometimes it just seems impossible to fit them all in and keep everybody happy as there as only so many hours in the day.

I have that problem all year round - I think some of them don't seem bothered by people with one/two horses as they are more interested in riding stables etc with lots of horses. I know they make more money for them but even so... You can prob tell I've had nightmares with farriers!!!

My old farrier used to say that was why it took so long to become a farrier- all the training was how to never answer your phone and be a grumpy old pervert!! Still miss him loads since i moved away as despite this he was a good friend who never let me down! (in case new farrier reads this- I love you too!)

We are still waiting for ours to turn up 3 months after he failed to show for his last appointment...this despite message after message. And yes we are looking for a new one but they're all busy too! I'm in the wrong career.

mine never turned up on the day we arranged. left loads of messages and i then got a txt to say sorry your yard is to far away !!!.

My farrier always answers his phone and turns up when he's supposed to.

He will even come and see the horse outside his regular appointment if there is a problem.

Sounds as if I'm in a minority.

This may sound highly uneducated but I have never been able to understand why so many people have problems with there farriers! Both mine and my friends farriers are perfect, always return calls, turn up on time, arrange appointments to our convenience etc and always turn up on the yard happy, chatty etc!!

maybe we just landed on our feet.......?!

ditto and he is wonderful and good for short notice,

Mine is an absolute gem, even turned up the day he was leaving for his holidays because my horse had gone lame. He's always on time and if he thinks he will be late he texts me so that I'm not hanging around. Needless to say I love him to bits !!!

My new farrier is brilliant as was my last one- and he was quite good looking too! Never had any problems with mine! and touch wood i wont!

i use our yard farrier, even though he wont rush to put a shoe back on he ALWAYS comes when he says - think i should count myself lucky.

We have a very good farrier. He turned up 30 minutes after my daughter rang to ask if he could find an abscess in my horses foot. (the vet couldn't) He is always here within 20 minutes of the time he states too. (and he's a bit of a joker and a perve!!)

Mine is usually pretty good, bit late but not too bad and great in an emergency.

However I'm just about to eat his xmas pressie as he was booked for 9.30 today and hasn't turned up, won't answer his phone and hasn't replied to my friendly text.

Has he been kidnapped?

I think the worst farriers seem to be in the north east an expensive unreliable bunch but there's not many of them here so they know they can mess us about as we need them.
