AGHHHHH what do i do ???

Good luck for today. We travelled our unhandled youngster loose in our trailer when we picked him up. He was fine. Loaded with the bribe of a bucket of feed and we were able to have the ramp open straight onto his little paddock and yard. Once home I think things will work out so much better for you both and wish you lots of luck and happy days with her.

I hope it works out for you - but if the breeders says she's a b**ch, there's usually a reason.
I'd be even more worried if they'd successfully halter broken her companion, but not her.
Still, maybe you enjoy a challenge... :p :D

Get her out of that place now, sounds like it is doing more harm than good. Trust takes time so just let her find her feet with you and build from there. She must be so miserable penned in 24 hours a day, such a culture shock from her previous existence poor girl.

My thoughts exactly! Get her home :)

Not always the case. When we bought our 6m old filly home from stud, we were warned that she as a complete witch & advised not to let our children anywhere near her. I think the YO where she was born was a bit scared of her because she has attitude. She's not at all nasty though, just a clever chestnut alpha mare who has proved to be a complete superstar. The children (including my v small 9yo) handle her just fine.

Just to let everyone know Seren got her headcollar on within 10 mins and walked into box (via tunnel method not led) with very minimal effort we managed to travel her with partition but not tied up. She stood as quiet as a lamb and wasnt sweaty at all on arrival. She was very calm and walked out the box quietly by herself and stood taking in her new surroundings for a good 10 mins before bunny hopping around the field. I know i have done the right thing as she was so happy to stretch her legs. She is coming over to me and standing arms length away and very nosy and i scratched her chin for about 5 seconds. I am now in no doubt that she is going to be a big soft teddy bear when she builds her trust up a little more. Im so happy to have her home although my other mare is furious and brought down the electric fencing lol. Im sure it will all die down in a couple of days. Thanks everyone for their advice :) :)

Fantastic news, so glad it's gone well :)

Brilliant news, you can start enjoying her now - if this good weather holds, take a book and plonk youself in the field with her (with some carrots of course !)

pictures please x

Great news that she is home safe, even if your mare is furious at her arrival! Please keep us posted with how you are getting on with her OP.

I'd get her home pdq, would imagine she is getting worse rather than better.

I've just got two semi feral dartmoor ponies to accept a halter. I used ones I found on the net with velcro strips instead of buckles, much easier and quicker to get on and once the ponies were used to them a normal halter was easy.

Good luck. Make sure you use an experienced transporter.

I love this site really glad to get chatting with lots of like minded people :). She is getting on fab cant believe i can love her so much already. I have a couple of pics they not that great they were taken on my mobile but will def keep uploading updates and lots of pics as her condition gets better. Yay, pictures! Hello lovely girly :) She's got a really intelligent, expressive face. I like her a lot. She really took it all in her stride in the end didn't she :) Looking forward to hearing how you get on with her, you must be so pleased you went to fetch her now! :D

Yay...she is lovely and she knows she is lucky. She will be fine, you did the best thing to get her away. Am sure she will bond with you very fast & your mare will get over it!(literally)!!

Good luck she does look very nice.

It has been almost 4 months since i brought Seren home. It has been a rollercoaster and there was points i thought it was all to much for me. It was 8 weeks before she allowed me to start touching her comfortably i had to get her sedated twice in one day for farrier and she still kicked living daylights out of him he thought he had broken his arm. Vet told me she was a liability and i should get rid of her.
She also has probs with off hind where hoof had grown at angle and bowed her leg unfortunately its irreversible as her bones have set. Thankfully shouldnt cause her to much trouble if she has a lateral extension to shoe in future for riding but dont know if she going to be suitable for eventing just need to wait and see.
I spent weeks crying as i couldnt let my daughters in field and was starting to believe that a lot of people were right and she was infact "too much horse" for me.
How wrong i was after the initial 8 weeks off quiet sympethetic patient but firm and consistent handling a light switch went off in her head and she turned into a very very trusting girl. I throw rugs on and off her pick up all her feet and can lead her in and out cones and over poles she has had her bridle on several times with no fuss and her saddle with no girth haha. All very simple things that people take for granted. She loves being brushed and stands beautifully with her bottom lip drooping while i plait her.
She turned 2 in June and Im so excited about bringing her on slowly over next 18 months and strengthening our bond. After having several types of horses and ponies in my life i can truly say i have never had such rewarand as the bond i have with her after bringing her from a nervous wreck. Obviously am very biased but i think she has filled and matured and is absolutley beautiful.
If any of you are ever in a similar position stick with it when you eventually get there its worth every tear and worry.
Here is some pics of Seren now my beautiful girl :)

Aaaawww, I'm welling up here! Such great news. I always think the ones you have to work harder with at the start, to gain their trust etc are the ones you have a better bond with long term.

Good luck for the future, keep us updated! :)

Well done - she's lovely! Thank heaven she found someone with patience and the courage to keep going. You should be very proud of yourself and her! Lovely pics, too. Keep us updated please.
