I really fancy having a go at agility with my border collie, can anyone recommend a club in the northwest area that will help complete beginners?

What's required re basic training, can you start off on the lead?

Thanks.

I tired to see if my dog fancied doing some agility. She limbo-ed under the jumps instead

GinaB, that is hilarious!

I took Stella to her second agility class tonight. We did a combination--a triple of jumps, the a-frame and then the tunnel. She got it third time because she kept running out after the jumps to enjoy a quick snack of crumbs dropped on the floor

Beastie does not believe in her feet leaving the floor unless it's to try and jump on my bed

Although Tina has cleared some impressive heights while out shooting.

Bless wee Stella, is she enjoying it? Or did she enjoy the crumbs more/

We were told to bring in a toy, with the teacher saying, "Now, let me demonstrate how to get them excited about toys," and proceeded to engage in a game of tug with a Cattle Dog. Only, Stella pushes her way in and gets stuck in with her crazy head-shaking. The teacher says, "Now this is good. Oooh, she's rather tough, isn't she?" with Stella sounding like the devil and trying her level best to rip the toy in two.

Here are some very grainy photos from my husband's Blackberry. So blurry because she's so darn fast

She loves her toys, that's for sure.

The teacher is great, which is nice. She has eight dogs, all agility champs, including a Pomeranian. How cute is this little fluffball?

"Kris's Pomeranian Melba has been ranked in the top 10 the last 4 years in AKC Agility for Pomeranians and is close to a dual Agility Championship. Melba is also the current Agility Champion of the All Star Dogs Tournament 8" division."

You need basic obedience to start agility, but most clubs will start you on the lead anyway. Your dog has to be 18 months old before you can compete, and most clubs I think prefer them to be 12 months before they start jumping. There used to be quite a lot of good clubs in the North West, whereabouts are you and I will try and find which are still running. (Its a few years since I was involved in agility).

Thank you Murphysminder, i'm in Saddleworth/Oldham area but i have no problems with travelling a maximum of 1/2 an hour. He's just over 6yrs old and as mad as a hatter, obsessive compulsive, typical collie really, although he's really big, as big as an German Shepard but i'm sure i've seen them doing agility so i'm presuming he won't be too big?

I think i'll need to do some training classes first, he's fantastic in the house and he'll do anything but where's there's distractions we run into trouble. It's like i'm not there!!!!
