Now before anyone says, 'well she is a mare you know', I have an 11 year old ISH mare. She is a show jumper and came to me in a bit of a sorry state, not abused or anything, just not loved as all serious horsey people are known for. I have spent the last 9 months building up muscles and general body. She is on a cool mix of feeds, nothing that gets her worked up. We have done a little bit of everything, very low key (being of the slightly older generation) and she wants for nothing. Over the last couple of months, I have started her on Moody Mare just to assist with any mare issues, not knowing her history on these things. She is the 'field boss' mare to 4 other mares. In the last week or so, she has started getting a bit agitated, pacing in her field (it is large and has plenty of grass, perhaps another contributing factor as if being a mare wasn't hard enough) and prancing around, including rearing when being led out or back in from the stables. She calms down once she is in her stable. I have been asked the question on whether she isn't lacking in something in her diet. I wouldn't have thought so as her feed is well balanced (Keyflow Stay Cool and Key Plus and HiFi and hay). I have recently reduced her feed due to the excess of grass around. Anyone have a similar experience?
